I Became a Demon Hunter, but I’m an Immortal

◆Blurb (updates at 6 p.m.):

[Hello, would you like to transmigrate?]

If you had asked Gui Jue in middle school, he'd have said, "Let's go!" In high school, he might have hesitated. But at 28, after dying suddenly from overwork, all he can say is, "No."

[You went from the Long-Life Species to a short-lived species, and lived only 28 years. Are you really content with that?]

"I am. Twice, I closed my eyes having fulfilled my duty. The generations to come will write the future."

[If you agree to transmigrate this time, you'll be reborn as a short-lived species and return to Their embrace. You'll be able to see your old friends again. Don't you want to reclaim your faith and meet them?]

"No. The dead should stay dead. That kind of upheaval must never happen again. I won't be one of them."

[I'm the Wish System. Your overwhelming desire called me here...]

"My wish has been fulfilled. Goodbye forever."

[But listen. Man-eating demons are rampaging, and everyone is begging for help.]

["Sister, don't leave me!" ]

["Why wasn't I the one who died?" ]

["God... please, save my little brother..." ]

"..."

"Shut up. I'll do it."

Later, in the Infinity Castle, with the System's help, he connects to the starry sky and brings out the one trump card he's had all his life:

"Great Lord of the Bow, please cast your gaze upon me..."

I will return to Your embrace once more, and beg You... With an arrow set upon the bow, eradicate the abominations and let ten thousand branches wither.

Including me.

Muzan, who firmly believes there is no divine punishment: ?

[...]

The System is too busy frantically nerfing the Hunt's light-arrow to dare speak.

The Demon King has to die, but if this thing doesn't hurry up, the whole planet will be blown to bits!

(Mainly Demon Slayer, with a little Honkai: Star Rail setting. You don't need to have played it.)

◇ [Notes for Readers]

1. Third-person narration throughout. A fix-it story, paired with the Water Hashira's white moonlight, Sabito.

2. OOC warning, though I'll try to keep everyone in character.

3. The protagonist's name really isn't random this time.

4. Please don't give me writing advice. *bows*

5. Let's part on good terms. Please don't mention other story titles in the comments.

6. The story uses Honkai: Star Rail elements, though they're barely in the main text. You can follow along without having played. I've been playing since Honkai: Star Rail launched (shy.jpg).

7. I'll add more if I think of anything. That's all for now.

Screenshot dated 2026/05/15. I'll make a few revisions before starting the story.

Premise: It is precisely because life is short that we can witness the brilliance of humanity.
