You Are My Starlight

The Shen Family Series, Book 2

From China to Africa, thirty thousand kilometers, all for you.

The first time they met, Shen Li stepped down from his car, travel-weary. He looked up and found himself gazing into a pair of eyes brighter than the stars.

But the owner of those eyes disappeared in the blink of an eye. It wasn't until the next day, when Chi Zhou knelt in a pool of blood to save an elephant that had fallen to poachers, that he understood. It wasn't that her eyes were shining. Chi Zhou herself was a star on this grassland.

One night, Chi Zhou was looking through photos taken on the grassland with Shen Li. She happened to come across a group photo. In it, Chi Zhou wore a bright, radiant smile, dazzling as the stars in the African night sky.

As Chi Zhou spoke, she suddenly realized the person beside her had gone quiet.

She turned around. He drew her into his arms, his low voice sounding by her ear.

"Chi Zhou, I'm jealous."

"Hmm?" Chi Zhou couldn't make sense of it. How had looking at photos made him jealous?

Shen Li rested his forehead against hers, kissed her gently on the lips, then said, "I'm jealous that someone else was by your side back then, and not me."

Chi Zhou thought it over for a while before finally understanding. She laughed, then kissed him back.

She wanted to say: The years we missed are yours for the rest of my life.

Reader's Guide: The two leads have only ever been with each other. There are no third parties and no melodrama.

Are you a poacher or a protector?

Three hundred li west, no one. One hundred li south, no one. Sixty li north, no one. Thirty li east, no one.

There was only the howling west wind, the vast plains, the horizon standing shoulder to shoulder with the setting sun, and a group of wildlife protectors.

This is a story about protecting others.
