Summoning a Thousand Souls

As a guide who escorts the dead, Lu Ya has seen every ugly face in the world. Everyone, that is, except Chong Yu. Chong Yu is so sincere, it is as though he would open his heart and show it to him, without a single lie.

Until the day Lu Ya, like a puppet under someone else's control, drives a dagger into Chong Yu's heart. Only then does he realize that it isn't that Chong Yu never lied. It's that he has no heart.

How could someone without a heart tell a lie?

II.

Chong Yu lost both his parents as a child and grew up alone, locked away in a small courtyard, until he met his master at the age of eight.

He doesn't know where his master came from or what his name is. He only knows that his master taught him to read and write, taught him the Dao, and passed everything on to him. The books say he must repay this kindness.

He takes everything his master says as his destiny. Whatever he is told to do, he will do.

Until his master tells him, "You were born to give up your life."

Only then does he realize that his entire life has already been arranged for him.
