I Once Served the Queen of England

Seven-year-old Anna gazes up at twenty-seven-year-old Mycroft: "Are you a new member of the Cabinet?" "Yes, Your Highness." "They're far too indecisive, aren't they? Even Father. We should give our enemies a taste of their own medicine and show them what England can do!" Mycroft looks down at the little princess, who doesn't even reach his knee, his eyes filled with startled admiration. Seventeen-year-old Princess Anna gazes at thirty-seven-year-old Mycroft: "I can't be queen. They won't allow it." "You will be an excellent ruler. I will help you make history." "No one has ever told me what to do." "I will teach you." Twenty-seven-year-old Queen Anna gazes at forty-seven-year-old Prime Minister Holmes: "I will follow my ancestor's example and never marry, devoting my life to the people of Great Britain." "You are the queen. You need to marry." "If you pressure me again, Prime Minister, I will tell them the real reason I intend to remain unmarried for life!" "You need a husband..." "What I need is you, Mycroft Holmes!" Thirty-seven-year-old Queen Anna stands beside fifty-seven-year-old Mycroft's sickbed: "Hold on. For England. For me." "I chose a dependable ruler for the country, but I couldn't choose a dependable husband for you..." "If it will put your mind at ease, I will consider your advice." Alternate history. The characters are still their Sherlock characters.
