Years Like Flowing Scenery

Could two people truly love each other, become husband and wife, and spend every day together, yet still miss each other for a lifetime?

In the spring of 2016, Chinese American Chu Siyan came to Suzhou to visit the places where her maternal grandparents had lived when they were young. Her soul transmigrated several times to the most turbulent years in China, between 1946 and 1949. Only then did she understand how her late grandparents had once spent their days together, loving each other deep down, yet still missed their chance...

Unlike in ordinary transmigration novels, only Chu Siyan's soul travels to the past. She can only witness her grandparents' past, not take part in it. Each time her soul transmigrates, she learns more about her late grandparents and great-aunt and great-uncle. As it turns out, love isn't as simple as it appears. Love can take a thousand different forms!

This book's distinctive feature is how rapidly it shifts back and forth between time periods, reflecting its theme: "Beauty fades in the blink of an eye; splendor lasts but a moment." The book was originally titled Fleeting Splendor, but the author found another novel online with the same title and changed it to Passing Years of Splendor. The author believes the word "Passing" in the new title better captures the watery Jiangnan setting.

Theme: To portray love in its thousand different forms
