Looking Back Three Thousand Miles

This is the eighth installment in the Last Princess series. Its title comes from the line "Looking back at my homeland, three thousand miles away" in Song Huizong's poem On the Northern Wall. The heroine is Zhao Roujia, the legitimate daughter of Emperor Qinzong, the last emperor of the Northern Song Dynasty. When the Jingkang Incident took place, Zhao Roujia was still a child and had no title as an imperial princess, but later generations usually called her Princess Roujia. Of all the Song imperial women captured and taken north, she was arguably the only lucky one. Unlike her equally young, illegitimate aunts and cousins, who were sent to the laundry compound in Jin to be raised, she was allowed to remain by her grandfather and father's side. This book will explain why the Jin showed her such special favor...

The official histories say only that Zhao Roujia accompanied her grandfather and father to Wuguocheng. Neither official nor unofficial histories describe her growing up there. This gives the author plenty of room to imagine what happened. In this book, her father secretly arranges for someone to take her away and flee south. As she grows up, she will meet Yue Yun, son of the great general Yue Fei, and Han Liang, son of the famous general Han Shizhong...

Although Zhao Roujia's story is the main thread of this book, it also devotes considerable attention to her aunt, Princess Roufu, and her uncle, Zhao Gou. It will unravel for readers the mystery of the true and false Princess Roufu, one of the Southern Song's most baffling cases. Stay tuned!
