Zhu Qing's Qing Dynasty Journal

Xiazhu is a young woman who transmigrates from the modern era to the late Qing dynasty.

The Xianfeng Emperor treats her as a kindred spirit, but never grants her a palace title or even the rank of concubine.

For a time, she serves at the side of Empress Dowager Cixi, but is then assigned to a young consort of just fourteen.

She is a lowly palace maid, yet also a senior female attendant in charge of the others.

She nearly gets forced into a relationship with a eunuch, but in the end, an imperial decree arrives, ordering her to marry Ronglu as his concubine.

As Ronglu's secondary wife, she lives through political strife and war.

Through turbulent times, the city of Xi'an is her companion, and there she brings a legendary half-life to its end.

She is both a participant and a witness, rising and falling as she sees all the upheavals of the late Qing court.

(Qing dynasty transmigration. The heroine lives through the reigns of Xianfeng, Tongzhi, and Guangxu.)
