Afterword to If You Mean It: Ballad of Mist and Water

He said: I've seen you so many times, but only three of those meetings remain clearest in my memory.

The first time, on the Kangxi Grasslands, beneath a moon bright enough to shine for a thousand miles. You, a noble scion of the imperial family, saved me, yet still let me take my anger out on you.

The second time, outside the Yanyu Zhishuang Tower, in the midst of a heavy snowfall. You called out to me and said that once we left Taiwan, you could only leave me one fox-fur coat.

The third time, in front of the Hall of Supreme Harmony, at sunset. You said your heart had no other wish, and if it were possible, all you wanted was to take one person with you for the rest of your life.
