If You Mean It

He lost his mother at three and his father at nine. Only the protection of an old servant kept him and his young brother from being driven out of their home.

He inherited his hereditary post at nineteen and rose swiftly through the ranks over the next ten years. At just twenty-nine, he had reached the highest position a subject could hold.

He amassed untold wealth in life, but after his death, his estate was confiscated. The common folk sang, "When the powerful minister falls, the emperor eats his fill."

He was Heshen of the Niohuru clan.

The foremost power minister of the Qing dynasty, during the later years of Emperor Qianlong's reign.

But everyone meets someone else, sooner or later.

Even if his childhood was unhappy,

even if he ingratiated himself at court,

even if he stopped at nothing,

even if he never believed in it,

some people, once they meet, fall in love.

The story of Xiao Hezi and Fu Sanye, then Lord He and Marshal Fu, then Grand Secretary He and Prince Fu, then He Zhizhai and Fu Yaolin.

Emperor Qianlong appears, and so does the fifteenth prince, the Jiaqing Emperor. There is angst, steamy scenes, a power couple, and days of happy endings... The author hopes there will be those, too.

No transmigrate, no reborn, entirely fictional, just for your amusement.
