[Soldiers Sortie] [Gao Shi] A City

Who says we have no clothes? I'll share my robe with you. The king is raising an army; let me sharpen my spear and lance. I will share your enemy!

Who says we have no clothes? I'll share my undergarment with you. The king is raising an army; let me sharpen my spear and halberd. I will march with you!

Who says we have no clothes? I'll share my skirt with you. The king is raising an army; let me prepare my armor and weapons. I will go with you!

From "No Clothes," Songs of Qin, Book of Songs

It was rare for Shi Jin to look back at him earnestly and say, "Company Commander, there's something I want to tell you."

His tone was nothing unusual, nor was his voice, nor was anything about him. And yet Gao Cheng felt, oddly enough, as if his heart were about to leap out of his chest. "...If there's something, then say it."

"You should come visit the Northeast sometime." Shi Jin was still unusually serious. "Come to the Northeast, try the local food, listen to the local accent. Oh, actually, I just wanted to say that your Northeast accent... really isn't standard!"

...A moment later, Gao Cheng finally managed to answer. "You little punk, what did you say? Get back here! Keep running and I'll beat you up!"

Those were the story's most reckless, youthful days.

Those were the happy years of the Seventh Company.

Dedicated to my beloved couple.
