Ghost Market in Dead Man's Ravine

In a remote village in northern Anhui lies Dead Man's Gully, a desolate slope strewn with graves. Since ancient times, there has been a taboo: on the night of the lunar month's last day, at midnight, never enter the gully or look at the red lanterns that appear on the hillside. When he was twenty, a young man, angry and defiant, broke into the graveyard late one night, only to stumble upon a ghostly night market at the third watch. People walked through the air, spirits with no shadows flocked to the market, and every stall sold rare goods from the underworld. There are three ironclad rules for entering the ghost market: never give your real name, never eat its food, and never casually buy old things from the underworld. Break any of them, and you will lose years of your life, be haunted, and remain trapped in the ghost market forever. Black fog sealed off his way back, forcing him to walk to a little stall at the end of the market. The woman in red tending the stall stood with her feet on the yellow earth and cast a shadow, making her the most unusual presence in the entire ghost market. A Longevity Lock, missing for many years, lay on the table and revealed a secret: he had not stumbled into the ghost market by chance. He was himself a lost old artifact, and this scheme between the living and the dead had been set in motion long ago. One sealed-away old artifact after another came to light. The buried stories and the lingering obsessions of the dead behind each antique slowly surfaced as the ghost market opened. A living person who enters the ghost market must make a contract for each item, stake their life on each thing, and repay every transaction with their own lifespan and karmic debts. Theme: Greed invites its own consequences; all must bear the karma they create. Deals between yin and yang cannot defer the cost of fate.
