Hayakawa Sachiko has social anxiety.

At 180 centimeters tall, she stands out in a crowd.

The good news is that she is extremely rich.

She has built an isolated fortress out of endless money. She bought an old house deep in the mountains and hired servants.

But she only leaves her room at midnight, like a ghost.

Yamakage Sayo, covered in injuries, collapsed outside her door. A servant respectfully asked whether she wanted him driven away.

Sachiko hadn’t wanted to get involved.

But beneath the blood-soaked white shirt, she saw a body frighteningly thin, covered in old scars and fresh wounds.

When this man, who looked like he might stop breathing at any moment, woke up, his first reaction was to curl up, bury his face in his knees, and whisper, “I’m sorry. I’ll leave right away.”

Like a stray dog beaten into submission.

Hayakawa Sachiko silently handed him a warm towel.

Sayo didn’t dare take it. Only when she frowned and said, “Give me your hand,” did he tremblingly open his palm. His knuckles were covered in frostbite and scrapes, and dried blood remained beneath his fingernails.

She learned later that the day he ran away from home, he had worn only a single layer and walked forty kilometers through the snow.

Hayakawa Sachiko had never taken care of anyone in her life, but she made an exception for Sayo. The first time she applied medicine to his wounds, he trembled from the pain but bit his lip and refused to make a sound.

She gripped his chin. “If it hurts, say so.”

He looked up at her with reddened eyes, like a little dog soaked by the rain that had finally found shelter.

In that moment, Hayakawa Sachiko heard her heart pounding like a drum.

She might have fallen in love at first sight.

Wait... Sayo doesn’t seem to be simply a kind person, after all?
