An egg that had spent a thousand years hatching was bound to a Long Aotian System.
Bad news: it had to do missions.
Worse news: the egg wasn't Long Aotian, but Long Aotian's cannon-fodder ex-wife.
The sort who looks down on the poor and fawns on the rich, kicks people when they're down, and keeps provoking Long Aotian despite knowing he's not to be trifled with, only to meet a miserable end.
According to the System, it was supposed to bind itself to the Long Aotian in each world and protect him until he reached the pinnacle. But over the past few years, the Long Aotians in many worlds had gone off the rails and quit.
The Space-Time Bureau thought they might not be getting enough stimulation, so it decided to try a different approach: bind the System to Long Aotian's cannon-fodder ex-wife, and have her humiliate him until she rekindled his fighting spirit!
Egg: ...
Do I look sick to you? Why would I stop being a perfectly good egg and go become an idiot?
Seeing how reluctant the egg was, the System tried to coax it:
"Egg, you've been here for so long. Don't you want to go out and see the world?"
"No."
"Egg, don't you want to know what it feels like to break out of your shell?"
"No."
The System had no other ideas.
"Egg, if you come with me to do missions, once you have enough points, you can choose what species you hatch as!"
The egg perked right up.
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!"
Some time later, the System was left utterly bewildered.
It stared at the electrical currents crackling wildly through its body, unable to figure out what species the egg wanted to become. Why had all the required points turned into gibberish and question marks?
And why had Long Aotian changed, too?
Wasn't Long Aotian supposed to be heartless and emotionless, loving no one but himself? Who was this guy cuddling the egg and coaxing it?
A certain Long Aotian walked past with the egg. Becoming the pinnacle of life for his wife was still reaching the pinnacle of life, wasn't it?!
System: This is completely wrong, but the missions seem to have been completed perfectly, so does that mean it's right? Wrong, right, wrong, right...
