Tang Sui is a ghost, a thousand-year-old ghost.
A thousand-year-old ghost with an official position, to be precise: Acting Director of the Underworld's Human Realm Office.
With a few little ghosts and a whole crowd of wicked cats under his command, he works diligently for the King of Hell and sweats for the Underworld. He's devoted to creating a better human world free of ghostly disturbances and supernatural mischief, helping modernize the Underworld and streamline reincarnation, and dispelling feudal superstition to give humanity its home back.
As for whom he's acting director for, Tang Sui has worked there for eight hundred years and never even heard of such a person.
Then one fine day, after Tang Sui casually caught two little ghosts and stuffed them into the reincarnation furnace, he was just about to head back to the office for tea and the newspaper when the legendary director of the Underworld's Human Realm Office finally made his grand entrance.
Black suit, slicked-back hair, impeccable looks, long legs, black hair, golden eyes, snow-white skin, and a face as beautiful as a flower. He seemed good-natured, too, smiling all the time.
If only the new director's beautiful golden eyes didn't turn into slitted pupils.
Tang Sui: A snake! It's a snake!
Aaaaaah! Who wants to work with a snake?
His brand-new boss pushed up the gold-rimmed glasses on his straight nose and smiled with refined elegance. "My name is Feng Xi. I look forward to working with you."
Tang Sui's vision went black. He wanted to smack the sign for the Underworld's Human Realm Office right into Feng Xi's face. Tell me again what the Underworld's Human Realm Office is, and what the heck does "Underworld" mean in Underworld's Human Realm Office?
He isn't even a ghost, and he gets parachuted in as my boss? I'm taking this all the way to Heaven, all the way to Heaven!

After Feng Xi joined the office, Tang Sui's daily routine became secretly jotting things down in his little notebook.
His list included, but wasn't limited to, using public funds on a field assignment to rent a shared bike; embezzling five yuan and thirty cents for a three-hour ride around the lake; accepting a bribe from a fugitive ghost to dig up the jewels it had hidden while alive, then keeping them for himself; and draining the office's savings to buy a tiny piece of Longjing tea cake, just so he could enjoy it himself. The list of his crimes was endless.
Later, Director Feng carefully read through the notebook and responded to each item one by one.
"You sat on the back of the shared bike while we rode around the lake. Strictly speaking, we should split that embezzled five yuan and thirty cents equally." Feng Xi thought for a moment, then added, "Since you enjoyed the whole ride while I did all the work, I'll give you another yuan."
"The hidden jewels? Tsk, didn't I turn them into a ring and put it on your finger?"
"And that Longjing tea cake? The tea eggs you eat every morning are braised with it."
Tang Sui: "...Goodbye, Boss. Talk to you later."

The work of the Underworld's Human Realm Office can be quiet, but it can also get pretty exciting. Tang Sui has dealt with all kinds of wandering ghosts and mountain spirits for hundreds of years, so nothing surprises him anymore. But after this new director parachuted in, things seemed to get a little strange.
Ghosts rioting, a hundred ghosts roaming at night, ancient divine beasts appearing in the world, Nuwa's repair of the sky happening all over again, someone answering the call of modern technology by making an AI VR game and trying to claim territory and become a god, and a thousand-year-old ghost creating an infinite-flow game dungeon to trick humans into clearing levels and ascending to godhood, when all it really wants is to feed on their vitality. In short, it was an endless, dazzling spectacle.
Tang Sui traveled far and wide with his new boss, encountering all kinds of bizarre things. His one source of motivation was the thought that after this job, he should have saved enough in his housing fund to reincarnate into the family of the world's richest person, right?
Then one day, he discovered that Feng Xi, that bastard, had withdrawn all the housing-fund contributions he'd saved for over eight hundred years and used them to buy a three-story villa by the River of Forgetfulness, complete with a garden and a river view. Paid in full.
"...Aaaaaah! Feng Xi, you bastard! I'm going to kill you!"
Warnings: 1. This is a supernatural story. It has a little horror, but probably won't be too scary, because the author is scared too.
2. Let's dispel feudal superstition and build a better home together!
Theme: Tomorrow will be better.
