In 1979, Evelyn opens her eyes while burning with a fever and remembers that in her previous life she was an independent musician in China.
But Evelyn has no intention of returning to her old profession. She remembers how thrilled she was to land a pile of low-paying jobs on an online platform, then spent every night revising them until late. Evelyn vows that this time she'll choose a career that makes her rich!
Musicians? Not even a dog would
Do it! Music is exactly what she'll do! By a twist of fate, Evelyn ends up in the industry again, and finds herself loving it all over again.
…
Brother: “Sis, I just found a job that pays pretty well.”
Evelyn, delighted: “Oh? What is it?”
Her brother, beaming with pride: “Lead singer in a band. What do you think? Pretty impressive, right?”
“What?” Evelyn immediately pictures a bunch of drug abusers with wild hair and bizarre outfits, and panics. “No way! Get out of there, now!”
Brother: “I'm afraid I can't. I signed a contract.”
Evelyn: “So what if you signed a contract? Your legs still work, don't they?”
Brother: “It says that if I quit without notice, I'll have to pay a huge penalty.”
Evelyn grabs the contract and takes one look. Her vision goes black. “Why did this band pick you, someone with no experience? And why would a band job have a penalty clause?”
Her brother shrugs. “Probably because the previous lead singers left for all sorts of reasons: drug overdoses, sleeping with a bandmate's girlfriend, fighting, psychotic breaks... They were out of options, so they hired me.”
Evelyn: “&%¥#*…” The stereotype has come true. She's really walked straight into a den of vice!
