When This Rain Is Over

In the seventeenth year of the Republic, Xu Jing'an married into the Lu family.

Her groom, Lu Zijin, was Beiping's most mysterious young gentleman. On their wedding night, he sat alone until dawn, leaving her a note: Don't wait for me.

After three months of living alone, she found a teenage boy's diary in the Lu family's storeroom. Its owner was named Lu Tiao, but no one in the Lu family had ever mentioned that name. One line on the yellowed pages made her blood run cold: "Second Brother wants to kill me."

And Lu Zijin was, by birth order, the second son.

A new bride, a missing boy, and a wealthy family shrouded in secrecy. The diary's final entry was dated June 17, 1926, the very same day the Lu family announced that "Lu Tiao had died young."

But was he really dead?

Xu Jing'an didn't know that from the moment she opened the diary, she had entered a game of chess that had been unfolding in secret for two years. Her husband, her father, and the "dead younger brother" she had never met were all waiting for an answer. And the secrets hidden away for seventeen years were beginning to surface, little by little, with the first snowfall of winter in Beiping.
