A Shanghai Lane in the Rain

That night, Anna was humiliated by her father in front of everyone and fled in a sorry state into the pouring rain.

Fu Zhaoshu ran after her, took off her wool coat, and draped it over Anna's shoulders.

“Don't touch me.” Anna's eyes reddened. “I don't need anyone to pity me.”

Fu Zhaoshu's voice was gentle but sure. “It's not pity. I'm worried about you.”

The rain poured down as the two women met each other's eyes for the first time.

Later, in Dai Anna's revenge plan, Fu Zhaoshu became the most unexpected piece on the board.

She had meant to get close to this woman and use her to take revenge on her father. But she didn't realize that every feigned smile would become sincere, and every lie would turn into a confession of love.

And when Fu Zhaoshu discovered the truth, she tore up the wedding invitation she had written and said to Anna:

“You can use my feelings, but don't lie and tell me you don't love me.”

That year, Shanghai was in turmoil, with war raging everywhere.

And amid the smoke and rain, the two of them learned what true love was.
