Anyway, I got the job, probably because I had connections (yeah). After I’d slacked off for two years, my connections fell apart. I couldn’t stay there anymore! I, an office worker, was forced to resign. ...It’s so hard to find a job. Why is society so harsh, and why do I actually need a job? Anyway, without my connections, the job market was brutal. To get hired, I started making stuff up on my resume: expert hacker, professional killer, intelligence management, interrogation and torture... I showed my resume to an online friend, who commented: Your chuunibyou still hasn’t gotten any better. So what! I still got a job with that resume. On a damp, rainy day, HR led me down a long corridor, and I suddenly caught sight of a familiar figure passing by. Th-this... this!!! I pointed at the figure and shouted, “■■■■, you-you-you actually sold your dignity!” Damn it, dressing up all flashy like that, you must be here to be someone’s kept man, right? Definitely! ■■■■ turned and saw me. His face, unchanged for ten years, twisted into a grimace. “You dare show your face in front of me again?!” I ditched HR and jumped on him, and we started fighting. Later, when I found out that ■■■■ was a department head at the company, my world came crashing down. I screamed, “This isn’t how it’s supposed to go! The reunion-with-old-classmates-and-showing-off plot was supposed to be mine! Why did you steal my script? Waaah!” And it got worse. I recognized all six department heads’ names. The company president’s name made my vision go black. I roared, “Is this right?! Weren’t you supposed to be a loser? You used to copy my homework in middle school! How did you suddenly become president?!” Worse than not having a Land Rover is finding out your old classmate has one. Worse still than your old classmate getting a Land Rover is becoming one of the screws holding it together. At twenty-four, ■■■■ still hasn’t forgotten his talent for complaining: “I feel like this Land Rover could blow up at any time with a screw like you in it.” I don’t care if it blows up. I refuse to accept this family-run mom-and-pop company! I’m switching jobs! I ran off, shouting. Then I was dragged back and made to wear a ring. Me: Isn’t bigamy illegal? The answer: We’re the mafia. So what if we break the marriage laws? Me: ...The mafia? “...Well, the secret’s out.” The black-haired young man laughed cheerfully. “But it’s too late for you to run now, Mel.” Me: How can anyone have a worse case of chuunibyou than me? This kind of cool character setting should obviously be mine too!!! I shouted again. · At fourteen, he was sent into the future by the Ten-Year Bazooka. During those brief five minutes, he confirmed that his future self had close companions, a career he’d fought for, and a lover who returned his feelings. From then on, he looked forward to becoming his future self every day. He had no idea that his future self was playing out a second-chance romance. · The main story is told in third person. The heroine is a desperate chuunibyou (probably), an extremely self-centered character who may do very rude things (probably) and definitely has a rather dubious sense of morality.
