Desperate for money, Jiang Yu stumbles upon a part-time job advertisement during summer break. The job is on a remote island, and she is so afraid of being poor that she is willing to risk her life. Without a second thought, she heads there.
When she arrives, she discovers that it is an uninhabited island, and her daily job is to look after a little fish in a fish tank.
Though full of questions, Jiang Yu does as she is told.
Then, one sleepless night, she goes out for some air. As she passes the unoccupied villa, the sea breeze lifts the white gauze curtains on the first floor. The once-dry swimming pool inside suddenly fills with water, and a woman with her bare back to the window sits at its edge. The moonlight makes her skin look like snow. Her seaweed-like hair falls to her waist, still dripping wet.
Like a hunter catching the scent of its prey, the woman by the pool turns her head in an instant. Her face is so beautiful it seems almost demonic, too beautiful to be human.
Jiang Yu stands frozen outside the window, as if held in place by some mysterious force.
From that night on, she begins having strange dreams again and again. In them, she and the woman with the otherworldly face are tangled together in an intimate, sensual embrace. The woman's fish tail coils around her in the water, and they carry on without pause, day or night.
As time passes, Jiang Yu can barely tell reality from dreams. Fortunately, her job is almost over. Convinced she has encountered something supernatural, she decides to go home, forget the whole experience, and never tell anyone about it.
Strangely, as time goes by, those memories gradually grow hazy.
Soon, her senior-year internship begins. Jiang Yu grits her teeth and rents a small place of her own. On the night she moves in, a torrential downpour rages, lightning flashing and thunder roaring.
A knock comes in the middle of the night. Jiang Yu opens the door to find a woman outside, her face pale as snow and her features so beautiful they seem almost demonic. Thinly dressed, she stands trembling in the rain, helpless and pitiful as she pleads, "I have nowhere to go. Will you take me in?"
In a daze, Jiang Yu lets the woman inside. She thinks having another roommate will help split the rent, only to realize later that she has invited a goddess into her home.
It is bad enough that she constantly feels a pair of sticky eyes watching her. Whenever she goes out to eat with friends, attends a work event or a party, or even chats with a coworker downstairs, this "roommate" questions her when she gets back.
One night, Jiang Yu gets home late and accidentally walks into the bathroom. She finds the woman lying in the bathtub, an enormous fish tail draped over the rim, its pale blue scales gleaming with a gorgeous, alluring sheen.
Terrified, Jiang Yu runs back to her room, locks the door, and curls up on the bed, trembling. But the woman appears behind her, climbs onto her shoulder, and breathes seductively into her ear. "Your name is Jiang Yu, and I'm a mermaid. Don't you think we're a perfect match?"
As she speaks, Jiang Yu looks down in horror and sees her nightgown being slowly pushed up by a certain fish tail.
"You really don't remember me?" The mermaid's voice drifts over, tinged with grievance. Her cool fingertips tease open the buttons at Jiang Yu's chest. "Tell me, how should I punish you?"
#Broke college girl vs. scheming, flirtatious, obsessive mermaid older sister with an extreme possessiveness
#Coercion, coaxing, a chase-and-escape romance, and the abnormal, obsessive love of a nonhuman
#The older sister isn't human, so don't judge her by human standards. Most of what she does isn't exactly human behavior either.
