The Landlady of Harbor City [The Nineties]

Summer, 1997. Hong Kong.

When Wen Shuyi returned from collecting rent, she found that Grandma had brought home an injured man she'd picked up. Wen Shuyi tossed him right back out.

The next morning, Grandma had picked him up again. Wen Shuyi threw him even farther away.

When she went out on the third day, Grandma had brought him home again.

Wen Shuyi: ...

The man was handsome and well-built. When Grandma picked him up, he was dressed in a fine suit, clearly from a wealthy family. His only flaw was that he had amnesia.

One of Wen Shuyi's tenants had recently been taken by the Qinghe Gang, and she happened to need a hired hand to help get him back.

She named the man she'd picked up A Dao. Everyone called him Brother Dao. It sounded pretty imposing for a rescue job...

Everyone knew that you could offend anyone you liked, but you should never cross Wen Shuyi, the landlady of the old South District.

She didn't care about anything else, but if you owed her rent, she could track you down to the ends of the earth.

Though later on... asking the Crown Prince of Huagang for a favor could buy you another day or two.

The Crown Prince never had a nickname before. Then he got one: A Dao.
