Giving Foreign Psychic Contests a Dose of Metaphysical Shock [1990s]

Si Nan transmigrated to P City in Europe in 1996. There were no smartphones, no livestream comments, and even videotapes had to be rewound to watch again. But there was one thing that was wildly popular: the Spirit Medium Championship! Underground video parlors played the recordings on a loop, betting pools were frantic, and it topped newspaper headlines year after year. The contestants were all formidable in their own ways, each shrouded in mystery. Every one of them looked like a master among masters! When Si Nan announced she would compete, everyone was stunned! Si Nan had been orphaned at a young age. After the old Daoist who raised her passed away, her aunt, who ran a shop in Chinatown, brought her over from the East! She didn't speak the language, she was young, and she looked sweet and obedient. She didn't seem to have any hidden abilities. But at the competition... While the other guests struggled to suppress the possessed objects, Si Nan merely glanced at one. It trembled all over and sealed itself away. Everyone: !!! The other guests were so frightened by a creepy, grinning doll that they nearly cried. Si Nan said, "You old hag, stop pretending to be young." The strangely dressed little girl immediately lost her nerve, revealed her true form, and burst into tears on the spot. Everyone: !!! The other guests backed away in terror when the skeleton started moving. Si Nan took one step forward, and every skeleton on the other side took a step back. Everyone: !!! The production crew had arranged a "luxurious villa" that looked fancy but had actually been abandoned for years. The plaster peeled, the pipes made strange noises, and there was a man only she could see. He had claimed her favorite sofa and drawled lazily: "You drew that talisman crooked." "Why don't you just stay here? This place suits you." Si Nan stared at him for three seconds, then stuck another talisman on him. He didn't disappear. Instead, he smiled. "Could you move? I need to put up a house-protecting talisman," Si Nan said helplessly. "No. This is my home." "...You're already dead." "Don't worry. I'm still alive." Si Nan: ??? "Wait a moment. Let me figure out whether this is a case of a corpse coming back to life... or a customer service issue."
