[Sentinel and Guide] Why Is Your Spirit Animal Still Wearing Long Underwear?

[Synopsis screenshot from March 8, 2026]

The Federation’s strongest sentinel, Jian Li, lived a glorious yet exhausting life. At the end of his life, lying in a hospital bed, he made two wishes for his next life.

His first wish was:

To hell with being a marshal. Not even a dog would do it! In my next life, I want to be a carefree loafer and use my spirit companion to run over everyone I hate, with no exceptions!

His second wish was:

He wanted to touch his guide Xie Bochen’s spirit companion.

Their engagement had been an alliance of convenience. Though they had supported each other through their whole lives, he had never seen Xie Bochen’s spirit companion.

An orca tore through the sea of consciousness, and Jian Li returned to the age of eighteen. Without the slightest hesitation, he ran over his bloodsucking family, ran over the fate others had arranged for him, and kept running until he reached his former partner.

Holding the little black-and-white fluffball, Jian Li grinned.

“Why is your spirit companion wearing woolen pants?”

Xie Bochen: “...”

Looking at the happy little ocean puppy before him, he sighed.

Oh well. He’d spoil him.

Being reborn wasn’t for the sake of getting divorced.

[Please note]

1. My take on sentinels and guides, with mountains of original worldbuilding.

2. A sweet, short story about a married couple returning to the past together, making up for regrets and falling in love.

3. Note the age gap: the gong is eight years older than the shou.

4. The gong’s mental power is abnormal. In his previous life, he never hatched a spirit companion. In this life, his spirit companion is a white-bellied swiftlet, a swallow with a black body, white belly, and feathered legs, also jokingly called an aerial orca.

5. Shou-focused. Pairing: guide Xie Bochen x sentinel Jian Li, white-bellied swiftlet x orca, bird and whale.

Theme: Love and dreams, hope and vows.
