On the third day after the Organization fell, Gin's soul was picked up by a System. The moment he was bound to it, a user agreement two thousand pages long appeared in his mind.

He skimmed through pages of nonsense. Only one point mattered: If he wanted to come back to life, he had to complete tasks and earn coins. One coin per task, and ten coins would do it.

After years of fighting an international organization led by a certain grade-schooler, Gin had long since made peace with death. But if he could live, who would choose to die? So he readily checked the box marked “Agree.”

The next second, the System interface displayed his first three tasks:

1. Become friends with Shuichi Akai.

2. Become friends with Toru Amuro.

3. Become friends with Shinichi Kudo.

(The tasks do not have to be completed in order.)

Then again, it wasn't as if he absolutely had to come back to life.

System: Once bound, this System cannot be returned. Revival coins for reconstructing your body and obtaining a new identity have been advanced to the Host. Commencing transfer

Gin: ...You bastard.

A single artist moved to Beika Town. He was a wild, stream-of-consciousness type who painted whatever he felt like, and could make people look like ghosts. Even the garbage truck that passed by seemed to shake its head.

Every afternoon at three sharp, he painted in his yard, randomly choosing a passerby as his model. Shuichi Akai, Toru Amuro, and Shinichi Kudo had each made the list three times, and every portrait made them look further from human than the last.

He didn't just love painting, he loved showing off his work, too. He lined up his finished pieces in the yard, facing the gate, for the subjects and passersby to admire.

The three of them discussed it and agreed that they couldn't let him keep ruining their reputations. They decided to pay him a visit and negotiate an exclusive purchase of the paintings.

But that very night, Kaito Kid, chased all over town for some unknown reason by some unknown person, inexplicably crashed into the artist's yard and knocked over the entire row of paintings.

Toru Amuro: Are we still catching him tonight?

Shuichi Akai: Maybe let's not, for now?

Shinichi Kudo: How did he manage to catch him!?

Kaito Kid: ...I'm done for.

Years later, Gin had finally overcome his nemesis complex. With a cigarette between his lips, he asked Shuichi Akai, “When did you recognize me?”

Shuichi Akai put an arm around his shoulders. “One time, you fell asleep while painting. I went to cover you with a jacket, and you instinctively made a move to draw your gun in your sleep.”

They had crossed life and death, hatred, and a past of blood and fire, yet still found their way to each other.

So it turns out your nemesis really can become your wife.

Detective Conan + Katekyo Hitman Reborn, set in a parallel world. Mostly slice of life with a main plot; the main plot is a rewritten version of the Kaito storyline in a parallel world.

Ships: Gin/Akai, 2718, with a little Kaito/Shinichi and Tohru/Hira. Everyone else is either one-sided or just gossip.
