The Dragon-Protagonist's story has always been popular. It's nothing new when another family produces a cool, arrogant, and overpowered Dragon Protagonist.

Chu Suishen closes his novel, puts on medical gloves and a mask, and sneers.

What does any of that have to do with him? He's just the Dragon Protagonist's doctor and friend.

Chu Suishen only learned at eighteen, after finishing the college entrance exam, that this world was a novel and he was merely a male supporting character. The male lead was none other than his buddy, whom he'd grown up practically sharing pants with: Jimo Sheng. His surname was Jimo. Just hearing the name told you how powerful he was.

However, Chu Suishen got two completely different novels.

One said Jimo Sheng would fall in love at first sight with a poor, delicate but resilient omega, yet be unaware of his own feelings. Then there'd be a whole string of games where one chased and the other ran, and the one being chased couldn't escape even if he grew wings.

The other said that before Jimo Sheng met the omega, he would first meet an alpha. This cocky alpha had immense personal charm and went head-to-head with Jimo Sheng in business, until an accident led to a marking.

Yeah, that's right. His buddy got, well, marked.

But no matter who Jimo Sheng ended up with, it wouldn't be Chu Suishen.

Because he was just a beta.

He would always be the Dragon Protagonist's family doctor, not the most levelheaded person, but always able to tip the scales at a crucial moment.

Like arriving in time to treat the Dragon Protagonist when he was beset on all sides.

So after his college entrance exam, he decisively chose to become a doctor and dutifully follow the script.

Chu Suishen is a traditional sort of person. Even though he doesn't know when his buddy's little omega or big alpha will show up, at least for now, he's a beta who's bitten someone and has to take responsibility for supporting the family.

Except...

His buddy just spent all the money he'd saved from working on a watch?!

Jimo Sheng's eyes turn sullen. "Does it hurt you to spend money on me?"

Chu Suishen: "No."

It's just that he's not sure he can afford to support him...

Even though Chu Suishen has "marked" him, he still feels their friendship hasn't changed.

His buddy is still just like he was as a kid, liking to hug him and nuzzle his neck, sniffing him before asking pitifully, "Why don't you have pheromones?"

At times like this, Chu Suishen silently switches out his body wash.

"Today it's your favorite, orange."

Only then is the Dragon Protagonist satisfied. He snorts. "I won't bankrupt the Chu Group today, then."

"Thank you, President Sheng."

The completely straight beta believes in their friendship.

Even when the Dragon Protagonist locks him in a room, he thinks an omega or alpha will come falling from the sky any moment now to cure this lunatic.

But by the time he comes to understand his own feelings, he still hasn't seen anyone at all by Jimo Sheng's side.
