Don't Raise a Black-Hearted Lotus (Love Triangle)

When her former classmates came looking for Shui Yun, she was confused.

The man was now a starship captain who roamed the stars, his Alpha pheromones intensely aggressive;

The woman was a renowned commander. Like other omegas, she always had a gentle, accepting look in her eyes.

And Shui Yun was merely an unremarkable beta, doing the most mechanical and grueling repair work at a mecha repair shop.

Ever since graduating from military academy, the three of them hadn't crossed paths.

But now, the gentle-faced woman ignored the grease on Shui Yun's hands and softly pressed a bottle of gland-modifying medicine into them. "Shall we make a deal?"

Shui Yun looked at her, then at the impassive man standing behind her.

It turned out that family pressure was pushing the two into an arranged marriage. Though they were friends, neither felt anything beyond friendship for the other.

There was no love between them, but they needed a "bridge" who could change their glands at any time:

Someone who could temporarily become an omega when the man entered his rut, calming his volatile emotions;

And who could temporarily become an Alpha when the woman's pheromones ran wild, helping her rein them in.

"I still remember what you were like at school. You always stayed quietly to one side. You had excellent grades and lots of friends. Someone as wonderful as you shouldn't waste your time in a dirty, cramped place like this. Helping us is unquestionably your best choice." The woman gently wiped the grease from her hands.

The man suppressed his casual scrutiny, as if certain she wouldn't refuse. "A year of hard work in a dump like this won't earn you as much as a single day of your future salary."

Shui Yun was disgusted, but couldn't refuse. She was forced to leave with them.

As she'd expected, the job was almost unbearably painful.

She saw the identical coldness and cruelty beneath their false facades, and suffered terribly because of it.

But it didn't matter.

She had patience.

Patience to sow discord, little by little,

until the two turned against each other, going from friends who trusted each other most to enemies who loathed each other.
