A storm cuts Lu Tingyue's graduation trip short.
When he wakes up, he's trapped in a small fishing village, with an unconscious man beside him.
The villagers tell him in a dialect he can't understand that when the two of them were found, they were clinging tightly to each other. There must be something going on between them.
Lu Tingyue goes to great lengths to wake the man, hoping he'll help clear up their relationship.
Once awake, the man stares at his face and says something in a Hong Kong dialect that Lu Tingyue doesn't understand either.
He recognizes two words.
"Wife."

In the fishing village, Lu Tingyue does little besides eat seafood and teach the man Mandarin.
The man, over six foot two and standing as straight as a mountain peak, follows along and babbles like a toddler.
Lu Tingyue teaches him many everyday phrases, but just can't get him to change the way he addresses him.
"My name isn't Wife. It's Lele. Repeat after me."
"Wife Lele."
Lu Tingyue seriously wonders whether the man is pretending.
He tries all sorts of ways to test him, but the results disappoint him every time.
The man's intelligence is clearly worlds apart from before. He's no longer the calculating figure Lu Tingyue once glimpsed on the cruise ship.
He gives the man a new name: Lu Yitian.

Three months later, a helicopter lands on a clearing in the fishing village and takes the man away.
At the same time, a whole box of money is left in Lu Tingyue's room.
Lu Tingyue gives all the money to the villagers who took him in and sets off home alone.
He thinks this memory will be part of his eighteenth-birthday coming-of-age, something he will hold on to for a long time.
He still sees the man from time to time: on television, on magazine covers, even on the labels of expensive things he buys.
That Hong Kong company exports its products overseas and has a presence in every aspect of life. It's almost impossible to avoid.
The man, now over thirty, talks about his family in front of a microphone and mentions a regret.
"Five years ago, I was married for a while. Unfortunately, my wife left me."
Lu Tingyue does the math. When they were trapped in the fishing village together, the man was already married.
He donates every last thing he bought from that company.
Then one day, a storm sweeps through the city where he lives.
He hides in a sorry state on his way home, and sees the man appear before him like something out of a dream.
The man holds an umbrella over him.
"Will you come home with me, Wife?" His pronunciation is still far from perfect.

Lu Tingyue: I never changed my name. Did you really have to spend five years looking for me?
Wen Wangyi: My memory was wrong. I went to another country to find you.
