A Bud of Springtime Love

He knew nothing about his wife. Their wedding took place on a bitterly cold spring morning.

After they married, they treated each other with politeness and kept to their weekly obligations.

He asked in a low voice, "Is this pressure okay?"

She frowned. "A little too hard. It hurts a bit."

He carefully adjusted. "How about now?"

She nodded. "That's fine, thank you."

He lowered his eyes. "You're welcome. It's my duty."

Afterward, the night was deep and the stars were cold.

She got dressed, looking rather distant. "I'm going out. Get some rest early."

He nodded and told her to be careful.

Before the wedding, they had agreed not to interfere in each other's lives or ask about private matters.

But after she went out that time, she gradually stopped coming home.

On the night he was due to fulfill his obligation, he, usually so gentle and refined, put on a black shirt for once and waited patiently for his wife to return.

His phone lit up with a message from her.

"I'm not coming home tonight."

In a marriage of convenience, the worst thing you can do is act like you really care.

Yet for some reason, he wondered if he ought to learn about his wife's life.
