When Ying and Paimon first heard about Volker, they learned of him from Kaeya: a Snezhnayan merchant who went by the name "Zero." Anyone could tell it was an alias.
They had no idea what he was after, so it was best not to get too involved with him.
The Knights had already branded him suspicious. He was closely associated with the Fatui, carried a Delusion, frequently appeared wherever the dragon disaster struck, and was even said to have nearly become a Fatui Harbinger.
Ying accepted a commission from the Knights. Before setting out, she stopped at a cheap roadside stall to buy supplies. Paimon and she were whispering about that "Zero," unaware that the man himself had heard every word.
Volker, who was helping sell the goods, said nothing and silently packed up the items they had chosen.
Paimon: How much for all this?
Volker: Five hundred thousand Mora!
Ying: How much?! That costs so much, we couldn't cover it even if we sold Paimon!
Volker: Ten thousand Mora for the equipment itself. The rest is for added services, plus the price hike because you were gossiping about me.
Paimon: Ah! Sorry, but that's way too much! And what are these "added services" supposed to be?
Later, Ying realized that whenever she saw Volker, he was always working. Doing all sorts of jobs!
At Liyue Harbor, Snezhnayan ships were unloading cargo. Ying and Paimon were strolling around when, from far away, they spotted someone carrying more than three times as much as everyone else.
Paimon: That must be a poor employee being exploited by a cruel boss. Ying, let's go help him get justice!
But when they walked over, they saw a familiar face.
Volker: Oh, it's you two. Long time no see.
Ying: Why are you the one hauling cargo?
Volker: I don't have any other work assigned to me right now. Porters in Liyue are expensive. I can do the work of three people, and the money I save can go toward the employees' travel allowances.
Shouldn't a regular greedy boss make the employees do the work and then pocket the savings?
After asking about the employees' pay and benefits...
Paimon (enviously): ...Are you hiring part-timers?
They also saw him secretly helping people cross the sea to Inazuma by freezing a path across the water, working part-time as a bartender in Fontaine, and leading the largest mercenary group in Nod-Krai.
By then, Ying had grown used to it. She asked: Why didn't I see you in Inazuma or Natlan?
Volker: I went back to Snezhnaya to take care of some things, in response to a few changes at home.
And in Snezhnaya, Ying and Paimon finally learned why Volker was always working, as if he simply refused to stop.
Volker was living for Volker's wish, but was that really what you wanted?

Theme: Accept your true self
"If everyone follows healthy adulthood..." This is a big bug for the author~ There should be a dividing comma or something missing here.
It's so good that I love reading it, and I want to sneak it into the author's manuscript box🎉
If you don't know who will believe it, it's all a coincidence. 🐶
Is it really okay to not sleep like this?
Wow, the book in the folder waiting to be opened is so interesting. Congratulations to the boss for opening the door (star eyes)
