A Life of Vanity

Yuan Jin never imagined that her first meeting with her boss would happen at a karaoke bar. It was like she'd suddenly stepped into a kaleidoscope.

Her boss was sharing a French fry with a beauty, each biting down on one end.

He glanced at her, shirt collar slightly open, wristwatch resting on the glass table.

She was there as someone's replacement, and she felt uneasy. Lowering her head, she said, "I'm here to start work."

"What's your name?" he asked casually, picking up his watch and putting it on.

"Y-Yuan Jin."

The man's hand paused. He lifted his eyes and looked at her coolly. "How old are you?"

"Thirty."

"I remember my secretary's surname is An. She's twenty-four, a recent college graduate." He mercilessly exposed her unease.

At the time, she thought:

Men, young or old, all like younger women.

Women too.

Just like how she thought she only liked college guys, until later, when he pinned her to the bed and she was like a fish drowning in water.

At thirty, supposedly in her prime, she ended up entangled with him for half her life. She could say she hated him, and she could say she loved him. There was no way to explain it.
