Waiting for Nightfall

The day Yu Xi was brought to the big city, it was pouring rain. The downpour blanketed the entire city, blurring her vision and swallowing the road she'd come by.

Her eldest sister placed her hand in Uncle Ji's, then gave her all their belongings, along with the two thousand yuan she'd scraped together with their second sister.

Uncle Ji took her away and opened the door to his home. There was a boy inside, holding a spatula, his features cold and sharp. Uncle Ji said, "This is my son, Ji Du."

The boy looked displeased as he leaned against the stove. "You can't even afford to raise me, and now you want to raise another burden?"

Uncle Ji laughed it off and ushered her inside. From then on, their family of two became a family of three.

Later, on another rainy night, Uncle Ji never came home again. The wall outside was splashed with red paint from top to bottom.

Ji Du took a cigarette from beneath the sofa cushion. His long fingers toyed with a lighter, its scarlet flame flickering as it illuminated the scrapes on the back of his hand. He suddenly gave a cold laugh. "You think this place is heaven?"

"It's actually hell."

Her palm was covered in red paint. She wiped it away and met his cold, fierce gaze, stammering, "To me, this place is already heaven."

The heroine goes to college.

The hero supports her.

The white-clad person he raised would later be undressed by his own hands.

"When night falls, I want to tell you I love you, big brother."
