I Was a Corporate Drone in Ancient China

My name is Dai Mingyu. I'm a seasoned corporate drone who just wants to lie flat, but when I open my eyes, I've become a palace maid responsible for sweeping and dusting beside the empress.

Faced with my young, beautiful, and intimidating top boss, Huang Yaozhen, my social anxiety goes into overdrive. My voice shakes when I kneel to take my leave, my tongue ties itself in knots when I reply, and I wish I could turn into a wall painting and stay out of my boss's sight.

Then I discover that Her Majesty secretly feeds the birds, remembers when my wrist is sore, and uses the calmest tone to fiercely defend me when someone gives me a hard time.

I steel myself and decide to put every workplace survival skill to use: I help her organize the accounts with Excel, help her plan reforms with PowerPoint thinking, and, while I'm at it... start managing my boss herself as a project.

Later, she corners me in the Imperial Study, grips my chin, and gives me a dangerous look. "Dai Mingyu, what else of my realm do you intend to manage?"

With her lips so close to mine, I answer without thinking: "...I also want to manage whether Your Majesty goes to bed early tonight."

Later still, the impeachment memorials accusing me of "bewitching the sovereign" pile up like a mountain.

But in front of the whole court, she flings my appointment edict as her "technical consultant" in front of those old ministers and arches her phoenix eyes.

"She's mine, and I'll spoil her. Any objections?"
