The Roommate I Picked Up Is a Blade of Grass

[A Very Short, Sweet Story]

Lu Chen is the aloof campus heartthrob everyone knows.

He is solitary and hard to approach.

Until one rainy night, his heart softened and he brought home a pitiful little plant, drenched and shedding tiny droplets from its leaves.

The plant is terribly delicate. It shakes its head at the sight of the sun, sheds tears when it rains, and has to drink the cleanest water.

While complaining about what a nuisance it was, Lu Chen quietly moved it to a sunny windowsill and prepared a little bottle to collect dew.

He figured he must be going crazy to have grown attached to a plant.

Until one morning, he woke up to find...

A green-haired boy curled up beside his bed, blinking innocent, clear eyes as he murmured, "...Water... sunbathe?"

Lu Chen: "..."

What he brought home wasn't a plant. It was a little tyrant.

The little plant spirit, Ye Mu, was innocent and naive, instinctively relying on his cold-faced but warm-hearted "caretaker."

He walked like a human with both arms and legs moving on the same side, and teared up at rainy scenes on TV.

Yet when Lu Chen frowned, he would reach out a little hand and gently smooth the crease between his brows, bringing with him a faint, sweet, grassy scent.

Lu Chen grew used to having a little sun by his side, used to his clumsy concern and wholehearted dependence.

This little plant cracked open his hard, cold world, letting in the warmest light he had ever known.

One sunny day, Ye Mu lounged on the windowsill, eyes narrowed in comfort as he swayed his head. His soft green hair brushed against the back of Lu Chen's hand.

Lu Chen paused in turning a page. "Such a silly thing."

Ye Mu turned around, his eyes sparkling. "Lu Chen, Lu Chen! Let's sunbathe together!"

When Lu Chen didn't move, he held up two fingers and showed a tiny gap. "Just... just a little sun?"

As he spoke, he quietly edged closer, tucking his whole self into the sunlight beside Lu Chen. Then he contentedly went back to swaying his head, as if he were engaged in some important photosynthesis.

Looking at the little plant spirit beside him, so happy he might burst, Lu Chen finally couldn't resist reaching out to gently ruffle that soft green hair.

"All right. I'll sunbathe with you."
