In the early 1930s, ancient China faced a crisis that threatened its very survival. Huo Xiaolin, the young master of the well-known Huo family in Rehe, was a carefree and unruly man. He was friends with Zhao Shucheng, son of Security Commander Zhao Jinhu, and had fallen for A Mei, a girl who loved singing Huangmei opera. But his love went unreturned. As he and Zhao Jinhu competed for A Mei, the well-read Shucheng grew increasingly resentful of his father's warlord ways and the slaughter of innocents. The feud between the two families finally erupted, and the Huo family was massacred. Xiaolin narrowly escaped, carrying his grief and desire for revenge as he vanished into the underworld. He swore to avenge his family. After mastering his martial arts, Xiaolin fell in with the criminal underworld and became a notorious power in Hankou. Meanwhile, Japanese imperialism revealed its sinister, greedy face. Its merciless claws tore into the land of China, leaving blood everywhere. After taking many wrong turns, Xiaolin realized the mistakes he had made in life. Guided by fate, he would forge a patriotic legend with his own blood and flesh.
