This series is dedicated to Cui Daozhi, recipient of the July 1 Medal and a First-Class Hero of the National Public Security System; Wu Guoqing, a First-Class Hero of the National Public Security System, one of China's Most Beautiful Strivers, and a criminal investigation expert; and the many criminal investigators working on the front lines. We salute them with the deepest respect.
In the early 1990s, Qin Chuan (played by Yu Hewei), Ye Maosheng (played by Li Tai), and Li Wen (played by Huang Man) graduated from police academy and returned to their hometown, eager to become detectives. Instead, they became ordinary officers at a local police station. By chance, Qin Chuan subdued a would-be bomber with his bare hands, launching his career as a criminal investigator.
After his mentor, Gao Jianshe (played by Wang Ning), and his close friend Ye Maosheng died in the line of duty, Qin Chuan became even more determined to uphold justice. He went on to help solve numerous major cases, gradually becoming an outstanding figure in the criminal investigation force. Cao Zhongshu (played by Bai Fan), a criminal forensics expert specially recruited by the provincial public security department, was impressed by Qin Chuan's abilities. Wu Yingde (played by Ding Yongdai), the leading criminal investigation expert, put Qin Chuan through a rigorous evaluation before taking him on as a pupil.
Over the next 35 years of Qin Chuan's career, he worked alongside three generations of investigators, young and old, including Wu Yingde, Cao Zhongshu, Tao Weizhi (played by Fu Dalong), Li Wen, and Zhao Fei (played by Zhao Yang). Together, they solved one difficult cold case after another, ensuring that the torch of criminal investigation would be passed on.
