The story takes place in Northeast China in 1938. Zhou Yi is a Communist agent, and to help him infiltrate the enemy, the organization sends a female radio operator, Gu Qiuyan, to pose as his wife. As the two face Gao Bin, a formidable and calculating opponent in the intelligence bureau, their true identities come under severe threat. Meanwhile, the relationship between the "fake couple" is quietly changing. When Gu Qiuyan finds herself in danger, Zhou Yi ultimately chooses to return to Harbin to save her. But another path of no return awaits him.
