She Understands Forgetting Better Than Any Algorithm

The night she took off her AI glasses, she realized she had fallen for the wrong person

At three in the morning, Shen Moyan’s glasses flashed a red warning: “Your boyfriend has an 87% match with a suspect in an unsolved case from three years ago.”

She didn’t take off her glasses. Instead, she pulled up the “love data” in the System: 283 hours of conversation, 47 intimate encounters, and a steady heart-flutter score of 82%. The data said he was a “high-quality partner.”

But there was one thing the data didn’t know: the man at the film-developing shop she passed every day, the one who photographed her on film, had always been labeled “Unmarked Item, recommended to ignore.”

Then she discovered that her memories of her mother had been deliberately altered. Then her best friend told her that the victims in the recent string of murders were all “high-scoring samples”: women with seemingly perfect lives.

Then the owner of the film shop handed her a stack of photographs. “Every time you come in, you forget me. But every time, you fall for me all over again.”

At last, she asked herself: if even “love” is pushed by an algorithm, am I still myself?

The moment she took off her glasses, the System displayed one final pop-up: “Credit score: -100. You will become a person who ‘cannot be read.’”

But she smiled.

Because for the first time, she saw his face clearly: not data, but a real heartbeat.
