The Bandit Hunt at Cangyingkong

Synopsis of the Bandit Suppression at Cangying Ridge

In the autumn of 1949, Zhao Dahe, a young man from Panshi Village on Cangying Ridge in western Yunnan, leaves his simple farming life behind after bandits from the Mountain Eagle Gang abduct his younger sister and a strange blood talisman appears in his home. The bandits use the talismans to intimidate villagers and bone horns to make eerie sounds, exploiting superstition to control the villages while secretly stealing gold. Zhao Dahe happens upon the Cangshan guerrillas and, with his instinct for surviving in the mountains and uncommon courage, helps Captain Zhou Feng debunk the superstitious fraud and expose a spy. Together with A Lu, a Yi herbalist, and villagers of different ethnic groups, he weaves a network of informants. After enduring one life-and-death ordeal after another, he transforms from a timid farmer into a fearless fighter. Working with the guerrillas and a Border Region Column detachment, he ventures into the bandits' lair in a limestone cave, breaks up infighting within the gang, kills the mastermind, rescues the captives, and destroys the den.

After the fighting, Zhao Dahe turns down an offer to enlist and stays in his hometown. He leads the villagers in rebuilding their homes and dispelling ignorance, and forms a defense team to protect the mountains and gold deposits. Over the years, he repels foreign forces and gangs of tomb raiders coveting the area, carrying on the family motto of protecting their home. He witnesses his mountain village emerge from the turmoil of war into peace, and continues to write a story of ethnic unity and peace passed down through generations amid lush mountains and clear waters.
