Echoes of Yesterday Beneath a Rusted Sky

In the thirty-seventh year of the modern era, the sky is shrouded in corroded metal clouds, while the technological remnants of the old world pile up across the land to form bizarre city-states. The rain carries blue-green rust, and when it touches skin, fleeting advertising slogans from the old world appear. People survive by dismantling “memory chips” found in the ruins. The chips contain fragments of other people’s lives: some use them to piece together the past, while others use them to escape reality.

When Lu Jinye wakes, all he has in his pocket is half of a bronze gear engraved with unfamiliar markings. He has no memories, yet he can understand the “whispers” of mechanical wreckage in the ruins. He roams a grotesque marketplace where “lies” serve as currency, meeting a one-eyed merchant who sells dreams, a tower keeper who raises electronic butterflies, and a deranged old man who calls himself a “time repairman.”

As the markings on the gear gradually become clearer, he discovers that every time he touches a core machine in the ruins, it triggers a distorted “image of yesterday.” The fragments of these images point toward a secret that was deliberately erased: above the corroded sky, there seems to hang a vast lie capable of overturning the entire apocalypse. His quest keeps unfolding in the space between the absurd and the real, every step treading on the bones of the old age and the delusions of the new.
