Music in the Old House: A Wulin Woman Meets a Circus Performer

I’m Su Lingwei. I spent twenty years learning my family’s martial arts, but when my grandmother passed away, I inherited an old mansion filled with stories from the Republic of China era. My mother is pressuring me to marry into a wealthy family to secure our clan’s future, while my uncle is fixated on claiming the mansion. Then a faded circus ticket in the attic brings me to Shen Zhiyan. He dances high above the ground, spinning colorful balls, and his pocket watch is exactly like one of my grandmother’s old possessions from the Republic of China era. I have no superpowers, so I protect my family with my fists and feet. There are no melodramatic clichés: he helps me uncover my grandmother’s old romance with the circus and untangle the family’s ethical conflicts. On this journey through the old mansion, I’m protecting more than my family: I’m protecting the sincere love hidden in the circus’s play of light and shadow.
