I Protect the Mortal Realm with Immortal Arts

I am Lin Zhao, a young practitioner of the mystic arts at Xuanqing Temple on Mount Qingqiu. Before my master died, he entrusted me with his final charge: “Protect the mortal world.” It is the Tianqing era of the Great Chu, and disasters strike one after another: a drought that turns the land barren for a thousand miles, floods that swallow cities, locust swarms blotting out the sky, plagues sweeping through the commanderies and counties, and even snowstorms that bury cities in the depths of winter... Behind every disaster lurks the aura of demons. Using my magic to control water and earth, repel evil, and dispel disease, I rush to the front lines of each calamity. I summon rain for drought-stricken people, only to cough up blood when the spell backfires; build levees around flooded cities, using my own spiritual energy to keep them from collapsing; cast spells over fields ravaged by locusts, exhausting my power to drive the swarms away; and concoct medicine for plague-stricken villages, risking my life to enter infected areas in search of a cure. Along the way, I meet Su Wan, a female court historian who records strange disasters. She helps me gather information on the calamities and expose the truth about powerful families hoarding grain and corrupt officials. I also face the people’s distrust: some call me a “demon priest,” others accuse me of “meddling in other people’s business.” But I always remember my master’s words: “Immortal arts are not for attaining eternal life. They are for protecting people.” As the disasters worsen, I discover that they are all caused by the weakening seal on an ancient Demon Emperor, and the “Stars of Calamity” under his command are awakening one by one. At last, I lead disciples from the immortal sects, ordinary people, and even the powerful who once opposed me in a battle against the ultimate disaster, the world-ending calamity that tears heaven and earth apart. We give our lives to protect the last hope of the mortal world.
