I’m Taking the Civil Service Exam in a Haunted World

The Bodhisattva didn't answer my prayers. The one who bound me was a System called “Heaven Rewards Diligence: Double Returns.”

From then on, while everyone else joined the Zhenyisi and risked their lives for a future, I risked mine to grind through practice questions.

The capital's most talented young woman constable nearly worked herself to death killing a century-old vengeful spirit to pass the “Scholar” rank exam. While she was exhausted, I calmly handed her a cup of hot tea.

She asked how I had passed.

I pointed to another vengeful spirit I'd just slapped into oblivion and said earnestly, “Isn't this just a freebie? Look, the test is on how quickly resentment gathers. You just have to interrupt its spell before it takes shape. I even got in a quick review of Thirty-Six Speedy Methods for Exorcising Ghosts.”

She stared at me as if I were a monster.
