Handbook for Handling Anomalous Affairs

Lin Zhou always thought joining the National Administration of Anomalous Affairs meant passing the civil service exam and landing a secure government job. The work was nothing more than dealing with sofas that moved on their own, toilets that loved singing rap, or donuts with minor space-time distortion effects.

His motto in life was: If I slack off fast enough, danger can’t catch me. Faced with an S-class containment object, his first thought was, “What a pain to write the report.” Faced with a spatial rift that might swallow a city, he wondered first, “Is my perfect attendance bonus for this month going to be gone?”

But when the “anomalies” that should have been sealed away in case files began answering one another, and events that should have had nothing to do with each other all pointed toward the same unfathomable mystery, Lin Zhou realized that he, a laid-back investigator who only wanted to clock out on time, had somehow ended up on the edge of the cliff where the world was about to collapse.

“Don’t panic. It’s just a little situation... probably.”
