Mr. Gu, Please Stop Inventing Things

Ling Shuyang is the business world’s feared “scheming queen.” At the negotiating table, she can squeeze every last cent out of her opponents; when she paints a rosy picture for her employees, they’ll gladly work overtime. But to win back the old Western-style house she lived in as a child, she has no choice but to go after a “bizarre company.” The company, called the Wacky Invention Bureau, is run by Gu Ye, a full-blown “invention maniac.” His robot vacuum chases people around, spouting cheesy pick-up lines; his office chairs catapult employees who slack off; even his coffee mugs have to come with “floating effects.” Yet he stubbornly insists, “My inventions can change the world.” A takeover negotiation turns into a spectacular disaster for them both: a chair launches Ling Shuyang into Gu Ye, covering them both in coffee. Then a malfunctioning “contract bracelet” locks them together: for the next 24 hours, wherever she goes, he has to go too. The aloof CEO is forced to follow Gu Ye into the lab to repair machines and listen to a robot sing “Love Transactions.” Gu Ye, meanwhile, has to grit his teeth and accompany Ling Shuyang to a lavish gala, where his floating bow tie malfunctions and splashes red wine onto a business partner’s bespoke suit. But even in the midst of all the absurdity, love insists on joining in. Ling Shuyang discovers that Gu Ye’s “anti-human inventions” conceal a tender heart: he made chatty pillboxes for elderly people living alone and lamps that project images of parents for children left behind in the countryside. Gu Ye also catches a glimpse of the weakness beneath her “scheming mask”: late at night, she feeds stray cats outside the office and secretly covers medical bills for sick employees, all while insisting, “I just don’t want to be short-staffed.” Their childhood secret is captured by a “time-reversal camera”: he once gave a lost little girl a rainbow candy. And the ownership papers for the old house can only be unlocked if they work together...
