The Hidden Currents of the Shu River

The Hidden Currents of the Shu River focuses on the open and covert clashes in the Shu River region. The forces of justice, represented by Xuan Shao, confront the criminal gangs and power brokers entrenched in every corner of the city and countryside. From underground casinos hidden in bustling neighborhoods to networks of profiteers manipulating people’s livelihoods, from buck-passing in local courts to secret collusion with powerful protectors, Xuan Shao digs deeper through the fog, driven by a stubborn resolve to tear down any wall that stands in his way. He has seen farmers stripped of their life savings by casinos and shopkeepers crushed by those in power. He has also experienced firsthand the malice of the “protective umbrellas”: seemingly lawful verdicts and impeccably executed buck-passing that conceal burdens ordinary people can hardly bear. But he insists on holding tight to the evidence and ripping through layer after layer of deception. He uses surveillance footage to expose claims of “accidents” and bank transfers to trace the flow of illicit favors. Threats and ambushes cannot stop him from punching a crack of light through an ironclad wall of darkness. This is not a lone, reckless charge. Countless eyes are watching from the shadows: a market vendor quietly slipping him a ledger of transactions, a threatened witness finally summoning the courage to hit record, and ordinary people who refuse to be bullied, all waiting for someone to dare to stand up first. A drawn sword is not for showing off its edge. It is meant to bring what lurks in the shadows into the sunlight at last.
