A Game That Decides the Fate of the World

Synopsis of *A Game That Decides Heaven and Earth* Ling Yixuan, a prodigy of the Qingming Sword Sect, possesses an extraordinary gift for chess. Because of a mysterious white-stone pendant, he accidentally enters Soulbreaker Valley, an ancient land of deadly evil, and unexpectedly sees through the broken formation of the “Heaven-and-Earth Chess Game” carved on a stone tablet. There, he meets Su Qingyao, heir to the Heavenly Secrets Pavilion. She carries the matching black-stone token and excels at swordplay guided by chess and the art of divination. The tokens at their waists resonate as yin and yang, revealing that the two of them are fated to be “chess pieces.” The chess game stirs, drawing the attention of the demonic cultivator “Ghost Chessmaster” and various other factions. Ling Yixuan and Su Qingyao hastily join forces, driving off their enemies with “yin-yang chess swordplay,” only to discover a hidden hand manipulating the game, one deeply connected to both their origins. To break the game and uncover the truth, they enter the heart of an underground palace and take on the Heaven-and-Earth Chess Game, which requires them to survive eighteen layers of illusion over eighty-one days. From facing the deadly threat of puppet masters in the “Chess Game of All Living Beings,” to battling inner obsessions and fears in the “Chess Game of Heart Demons,” to holding fast to their principles amid court intrigue in the “Chess Game of Power,” the two use their swords as pieces and their hearts as players. As they share life-and-death trials, their understanding deepens and affection quietly blossoms. They overcome the “Chess Game of Desperate Peril” and find a way forward in dire straits, then explore the mysteries of cause and effect in the “Chess Game of Reincarnation.” At last, in the final illusion, the “Heaven-and-Earth Calamity,” they use their foundations of the Dao as pieces and their souls as stakes, breaking the game with a chess philosophy guided by love, grounded in duty, and mindful of all living beings. In the end, they uncover the truth of their origins: they are reincarnations of mighty chess Dao cultivators from antiquity. They also expose an ancient organization plotting to overturn the world through the chess game. The two become the “Chess Masters” who command the destiny of heaven and earth. At the Qingming Mountains, they witness the cursed land reborn and, standing side by side, continue their legendary chess journey in a new world.
