The Ancient Jade That Binds Souls: A Mortal’s Cultivation Through a Thousand-Year Reincarnation

When archaeologist Lin Wei touched the black jade stone stele unearthed at the ruins of a Song dynasty temple, she never imagined it would set off a journey through time spanning a thousand years. The Sanskrit incantations on the stele resonated mysteriously with the ancestral black jade pendant she had worn since childhood. A bolt of lightning split the night sky, and a powerful force dragged her into boundless darkness.

When she opened her eyes again, her soul had arrived in the alternate Great Jing dynasty, inhabiting the body of Su Wan'er, a frail young girl from Sujia Town. The warm black jade pendant around her neck was her only keepsake. A whisper lingering in her mind, “A thousand-year promise, the soul returns to its rightful place,” hinted that her transmigration was no accident.

In a world of tales about spirits and cultivators, Su Wan'er adapts to life in ancient times while investigating the mystery of her identity. She meets the aloof and otherworldly “Ink Immortal,” who lives in seclusion among the bamboo groves. The medicinal herbs and unusual medical texts he brings seem to have a hidden connection to her constitution. As she studies The Essential Art of the Spiritual Pivot, she gradually discovers that beneath her innate lack of spiritual power lies wisdom from a past life.

Her good deed of saving someone from drowning, the strange stirrings of the black jade pendant, and the echoes of the spells on the broken stele bind Su Wan'er’s fate ever more closely to the Ink Immortal’s. During their quiet years in Sujia Town, they face the encroachment of sinister, baleful forces together, putting the principles of cultivation into practice as they heal the sick and save lives. As fragments of sealed memories continue to surface, Su Wan'er finally understands that this cycle of reincarnation spanning a thousand years is meant to fulfill an uncompleted wish from her past life. The ancient jade is the key to linking the karmic threads of two lifetimes and opening the path to cultivation rooted in both the immortal and Buddhist traditions.
