War-Torn Apricot Grove

In 1937, the water town of Wuzhen in Jiangnan was engulfed by war. Shen Yanqiu, heir to a century-old family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, had lived a peaceful life until the Japanese invasion brought suffering to her fellow countrymen and destroyed her home. She put down her medicine grinder and took up silver needles as blades and her medicine chest as a shield. In the chaos of war, she treated the wounded, passed on intelligence, and fought alongside patriotic resistance fighters. From a gentle young woman to a pioneer in the war against Japan, she used a healer’s compassion and a deep sense of duty to her nation to compose a stirring song of resistance amid the flames of war, embodying the resilience and patriotism of the Chinese people in their nation’s hour of need.
