Until one day, a broken ancient inkstone was delivered to his shop, and the violent memories contained in it almost tore his sanity to pieces. When he was on the verge of collapse, a mysterious woman named Lingyue came to his door. She claims to be a member of the "Silent Court" that deals with "material grudges", and the inkstone is just a broken corner of an ancient artifact called "The Ruins of Time". Today, these fragments containing powerful resentment are scattered in the world, turned into various artifacts, attracting and creating monsters called "resentful spirits". The ability to smell time is the only key to finding these fragments. One longs for the ordinary, and the other carries fate.
