Us in the Old Days: Love Can Overcome Anything

Ninety-year-old Grandpa Lin and Grandma Shen sit in wicker chairs as sunlight spills across their silver-white hair. Seventy years ago, he was an apprentice at a street-side watch repair shop, and she was the daughter of a tailor at the end of the alley. One glance was enough to take their breath away, but the gulf between their families, the upheaval of war, and opposition from their relatives kept them apart.

They once shared a single steamed bun during a famine, hid each other's letters amid political turmoil, and endured long years apart with the help of an old photograph. From dark hair to white, life's iron fist struck them time and again, but it never broke the hands they held.

This is no sweeping legend. It is the answer written by two ordinary people through nearly a century of trials: in the everyday details of meals and chores, the reconciliations after arguments, and the support they gave each other in hardship. The most moving love is never a smooth journey. It's knowing that, as long as you're together, you can weather any storm.
