Tales of the Strange in the Mystic Arts

Xuanmen Guishi Lu uses the trappings of orthodox cultivation sects to conceal a dark core of corpse transformations and taboo secrets.

On the day an elder of the Qingcheng Sect is to "shed his mortal body and ascend," scratching sounds come from the coffin. When it is opened, he is found transformed into a living corpse with a blue face and fangs. The thunder-struck jujube-wood beads meant to ward off evil on his wrist shatter one by one. Shen Yanqiu, a new disciple, accidentally witnesses the scene and is dragged into this sinister conspiracy. It turns out the sect's secret scripture, the Nine Revolutions Art of Returning Yang, was tampered with long ago. The so-called "immortality" is actually an evil art that feeds corpses with the blood of the living.

From rotting corpses in the cellar of a Daoist temple to mutated terracotta soldiers in ancient tombs, every eerie corpse is entangled in a power struggle within the mystic sects. Shen Yanqiu gradually discovers that the "pure yang blood" flowing through his body is the key to refining the ultimate "Undying Corpse King." With a chilling pen, Wuhui Liqiba lays bare the bloody truth beneath the immortal airs and graceful bearing.
